Review of the day

Well, it was reassuring to see normal service resumed today, after yesterday’s blip :(

Master Neo travelled comfortably throughout the race and looked to have most of the field in trouble turning in.
However, he couldn’t shake off the attentions of Benheir and that one ultimately proved stronger over the final couple of fences.
You couldn’t crab Master Neo’s effort in any way – he simply came up against a slightly better horse on the day…
Needless to say, he traded odds on in-running, adding to that amazing record.
I can see that I’m going to be contacting the Guiness book of records, at the end of December ;)

To rub salt into the wounds, first Bendant and then Stow, won the 2 proceeding races.
Bendant clung on gamely in a very tight finish – and Stow somehow managed to fend off the renewed challenge of Ski Sunday.
I would just like to reassure anyone who is cursing themselves because they didn’t back them, that if they had been official tips, both results would have gone the other way !

I was also maybe a little hasty dismissing Plumpton…
AP did indeed ride a treble, which payed around 10/1 – not too shabby now it’s come in !
At least Captain Tidds did the decent thing and got beaten !

Looking at today’s write-up, it almost took a certain amount of skill to lose.
7 horses mentioned – 5 winners and 2 seconds !

Well, I’ve always said that the tips don’t do my abilities justice ;)

Let’s just hope that the luck pendulum swings back in our favour tomorrow…

  1. I'm glad I don't listen to your recommendations and put small stakes on all non-official mentions ;) No treble though, as I don't do acca's.
Chin up A, the tide will turn. I think I can understand the somewhat cynical attitude. Last few weeks indeed haven't been very fortunate and I guess laying the selections in running somewhat softens the losses. I see you're taking a day off. It'll do you good! -Reno

  2. It’s a shame you don’t follow the mentions to small stakes Reno, I reckon you could make a fortune on them ;)
If I had the time, I would go through the daily write-ups, and see how all the horses that I ‘nearly’ tipped, have done.
I suspect that the strike rate is spectacular (though I guess I may have a selective memory !)
That said, I don’t view it in quite the same way as I do the recent run of poor luck with the tips.
At the end of the day, it was my decision not to tip either Stow or Bendant today – so it was a judgement call.
Granted I was a little unfortunate with Bendant, in so much as his price did drift to 4/1 – and the 7/2 SP was without one of the 2 big dangers in the race (I would have been very tempted by him in either of those situations) – but these things happen…
As I’m sure you realise, I use the irony, to protect my sanity !
It is the same with the laying back in running. This game requires a lot of mental strength and anything that can provide help in that area, needs to be embraced !
That said, I don’t feel like I’m cracking up – or feeling the pressure particularly. I put myself in this bubble for 5 months and I’ll come out of it at the end – and that will be that.
Hopefully everyone will be a little wealthier as a consequence (and a little wiser – and a little happier !) – but if not, winter will be over, so we will all have the summer months to enjoy !
A day off will help tho – even if it is just to give me some time to write a few cards and buy my Christmas presents !!

    1. I think I wasn't clear enough (I blame the language barrier) and did place small stakes on your side-selections today ;) Didn't want to rub it in though! But I am glad your irony is just a little fun to spice it up. I just got to know you, you'd be close to insanity, for little I do know! But it's good to see your cool about it. Sometimes you see tipsters changing tactics when they have a weaker period. Steady forward, A.. it's fine as it is.

    2. You were clear enough Reno – I understood exactly what you were saying.
I think it was my reply that lacked clarity (though it would have been far worse had I tried to write it in Dutch ;) ).
I have many, many years of experience, going through runs like this (not tipping, but betting). I always come through the other side – though I have learnt ‘tricks’ (such as laying in running), to make the difficult times a little easier…
Don’t get me wrong, I get massively frustrated some days (that is normally just before I write the post race reviews !) – but when I sit back and look at things, I invariably feel more comfortable about how it is all going…
At the end of the day, I can only do my best. I think everyone who follows me, knows I do that. I think everyone also knows that I’m just a slice or two of luck away from making huge profits.
Whether that luck ever comes is a different matter – but there is no point worrying about what you can’t control…

  3. Andrew you must be gutted after today - 5 winners
However shows your rationale is top class and a great winner yesterday - everything will fall into place
I was too busy at work to read the write up as I usually have a few quid on the mentions - work has no consideration for the ordinary decent punter!!

  4. If we could all focus on this 24 hours day, we would doubtless all be millionaires – either that, or completely crazy !!

A little like Reno, I would never have considered backing the mentions from Plumpton…
It was APs mount in the last race that caught my eye – though when I looked, I saw he could be in for a good day !

The Ffos Las ones were a little more irritating – but I console myself with the fact that the prices on the 2 that won weren’t massive…
It does seem that I get every borderline call wrong: and every tight finish goes the wrong way – but we all know it can’t last…
You have to be philosophical about it and just keep on doing the same things and wait for the luck to turn.
However, it is important for me to be able to put down my thoughts in advance - and to rationalise the results in various ways.
A tip or two a day can ever accurately reflect knowledge/ability. It would be as true if they were all winning as it is with the majority of them losing.
The key for me is to keep reading things right – and playing in the right area: the footballing analogy would be getting the ball in the box.
We all know that if you do that often enough, you will score – eventually !!
